Baking from scratch

My friend and I met up for a baking day the other day. There was spilled flour over the work surface, too much and then too little cake mix, and volcano like eruptions inside the oven. (Well that just proves that you really don't know what happens behind closed (oven) doors).




The recipes were pretty simple for both of these. We followed a usual Victoria sponge recipe and then separated them into four bowls (two for the marble cake). Then we added the different food colouring (mixing blue and yellow for the green). Taking it in turns to fill the cases with the different mixtures, we realised that we didn't have enough and had to whip up another quick batch. It turned out great in the end though- minus the explosions.

The marble cake was separated into two bowls, one was kept as the usual mixture and the other we added cocoa powder to. Then down to my friends genius, we spread the mixture in dollops instead of my idea to keep adding from the middle. We used long cocktail sticks to swirl the two mixtures together and the results looked a bit like this:
